Published by Jonathan Cape, London; 2010. 312pp. 8vo. First edition, first impression. Condition: Fine/Fine. Signed by the author

Bound in original black pictorial boards, with the title to the spine in white. The binding is square and tight and in excellent condition, with no marks or damage to speak of, save a hint of bumping to the spine ends. Inside, the pages are clean and bright, with no blemishes or signs of wear to speak of. It is signed by the author to the title page.

The book is housed in its original, clear acetate jacket, with illustration in white. Book and jacket designed by Suzanne Dean. The cover is smart and clean and in excellent condition, with no damage or marks and overlays the design on the boards underneath.

In all, this is a very smart signed example of this modern first by Tom McCarthy. It was nominated for the Booker Prize in 2010. It follows the short, intense life of Serge Carrefax, a man who surges into the electric modernity of the early twentieth century, transfixed by the technologies that will obliterate him. C is a remarkable novel, a compelling, sophisticated and sublimely imaginative book uncovering the hidden codes and dark rhythms of life.
