Published by Jonathan Cape, London; 1997. 247pp. 8vo. First edition, first impression. Condition: Fine/Near Fine.
Bound in original grey cloth boards with title in gilt to the spine. The binding is square and tight and in excellent condition, with no signs of damage or marks and just a touch of bumping to the spine ends. Inside, the pages are clean and bright, free from blemishes or wear.
The book is housed in its equally smart, first issue dust jacket. It is in lovely condition, vibrant and bright with just a hint of bumping to the edges and one small tear to the bottom edge of the front panel. It is housed in a plastic mylar sleeve to protect it from any further wear.
In all, this is a very smart example of this first edition by Ian McEwan, adapted into a film starring Daniel Craig in 2004. It tells the story of two strangers, who become perilously entangled after witnessing a deadly accident. It is the story of how an ordinary man can be driven to the brink of murder and madness by another's delusions (blurb).
