Published by Chapman & Hall, London; 1955. 8vo. Condition: Fine/Near Fine.

This smart book is the second in Waugh’s Military trilogy. Following on from Men at Arms and preceding Unconditional Surrender. Waugh had initially thought that this book would complete the series, before deciding to add a third volume. “Men at Arms began with its hero inspired by illusion. Officers and Gentlemen ends with his deflation.”

Bound in it’s original dark blue boards with gold gilt title to the spine, the binding is tight and shows no signs of wear or damage other than some slight bumping to the edges.
Inside, the pages are clean and bright with just a hint of toning due to age.

The dust jacket is smart and bright and in excellent Near Fine condition. There is just some slight bumping to the edges and corners, marginal toning to the rear panel and a few small tears. There is one to the front bottom edge, one to the bottom rear edge and a tiny one to the top edge of the rear panel. These are, however very small points, the tears are closed with no jacket loss and do not affect any of the text or decoration of the jacket.

In all, this is a very collectible example of this popular novel in Evelyn Waugh’s military trilogy. It would make the perfect gift or compliment any collection.
