Published by Michael Joseph, London; 1982. 8vo. 174pp. First edition, first impression. Condition: Fine/Near Fine
Bound in original black cloth boards with title in silver to the spine. The binding is square and tight and in very clean, smart condition with barely a hint of bumping to the spine ends. Inside, the pages are clean and bright, free from blemishes of wear, save a touch of toning. The book appears practically unread.
This beautiful book is housed in its original, first issue dust jacket, which is also in excellent condition. It is vibrant and bright, with just a couple of tiny marks and a scratch to the rear panel. It remains in very smart condition, however and thee small points do not affect how well it complements the book.
In all, this is a very smart, collectible example of this first edition of the sequel to Household's classic Nazi-hunting thriller, Rogue Male. Written 40 years after the first book, this novel sees the anonymous hero trying once again to take out Hitler, after his failed attempt in Rogue Male. As cunning and relentless as any man-eater, he pursues his relentless, single-handed vendetta against the German armies of occupation in Hitler's Europe. Through Poland, Slovakia, Romania, Turkey and Greece, sometimes alone, sometimes helped by partisans, he reaches the British forces in Israel and Egypt leaving a trail of dead in his wake. But even there he is still an outlaw. In a brilliantly ironic climax, when the fire that consumes him is spent at last, the slayer is united with the slain (blurb).
