Published by Hodder & Stoughton, London; 1937. 8vo. First Edition, First Impression. **Laid-in Signature**. Condition: Very Good / Good.
Bound in original blue cloth boards, there is some bumping and fading to the spine, one small mark to the front and a couple to the rear. Apart from these minor points, the binding is in smart condition and remains tight. Inside, there is the remains of an ownership inscription to the title page. The pages are clean and bright and free from damage or marks, with just a little toning and the odd age spot or rub.
The book is housed in it's original green, illustrated dust jacket. There is some chipping to the edges with a little loss to the corners and a tears at the edges of the spine, with the one at the bottom on the front running perhaps a quarter of the way up. There is some toning and marks to the rear panel and flaps. However, these points do not detract from the charm of this jacket or book and it is now protected by a mylar sleeve to prevent any further damage.
The true joy of this first edition, however, is tucked inside the cover. Included with this book is a small pamphlet entitled "The Saint Club", with it's members to the front... The president and vice president of the club of course being Simon Templar and Leslie Charteris. Inside it contains the rules of the club and together with the pamphlet is a laid-in signature of Leslie Charteris. This delightful find, tucked carefully in this lovely book is a true gem and together, this book would be an excellent addition to any collection of The Saint novels, of a truly unique gift for any fan of these exciting books.
