Published by Jonathan Cape, London; 1961. 8vo. First Edition, First Printing. Condition: Very Good+ / Fine.
A lovely example of this popular first edition from the James Bond series by Ian Fleming. Bound in original black cloth boards with skeletal hand blind stamped on the front board and the title in gold gilt to the spine. The binding is square and tight and in very smart condition. There is some minor shelf wear to the edges and spine ends, with a slight chip to the top of the spine, and a faint stain to the rear board. These are, however, small points and the binding remains in smart condition..
Inside, the pages are clean and bright with just a little age spotting and toning to the edges. There is a neat ownership inscription to the ffep, but otherwise, the book is free from blemishes or marks and in lovely condition.
The book is housed in a facsimile dust jacket, which complements it very well. It is bright and clean and in excellent condition.
This is a beautiful, collectible example of the first edition of the ninth novel in Fleming's iconic James Bond series, being the eighth full length novel. It was created with the intention of being made into a film, and is officially credited as being based on a screenplay by Kevin McClory, Jack Whittingham and Ian Fleming'. This shared credit was the subject of much controversy, and lawsuits, following it's publication. The story focuses on SPECTRE's theft of a pair of nuclear warheads and the subsequent attempted blackmail of the Western powers for their return. Thunderball is the first title in the Blofeld trilogy, followed on by On Her Majesty's Secret Service and You Only Live Twice, which sees the culmination of Bond's fight against Ernst Blofeld and SPECTRE. It has been adapted multiple times, as a comic strip, twice for the big screen, and once for radio. The book is in very collectible condition and would complement any book collection perfectly, or make the perfect gift for any fan of James Bond.
