Published by Faber ad Faber, London; 2003. 8vo. 279pp. First edition, first impression. Condition: Fine/Very Good+.

Bound in original white boards with title in black to the spine. The binding is square and tight and in excellent, clean condition, free from marks and damage, save a hint of bumping to the spine ends. Inside, the pages are clean and bright, free from blemishes or wear, with barely a touch of toning to the edges.

The book is housed in its original, first issue, dust jacket, which is in smart condition, illustrated by Pentagram. With just a touch of shelf wear to the edges, the jacket is vibrant and bright. There is a faint cup ring stain to the front, but it is barely visible, and there is a tiny dent to the front panel as well. In spite of these points, it remains in very good condition, complementing the book perfectly.

In all, this is a very smart example of this modern first of DBC Pierre's debut novel and winner of the Booker Prize in 2003. Set in the small town of Martirio, Texas, this satirical novel follows Vernon, a fifteen year old who finds himself in deep trouble after his best friend Jesus kills sixteen of his classmates before committing suicide. Vernon becomes the target of the media's thirst for sensation, and vengeful townspeople looking for a scapegoat, seeing him drawn into a series of increasingly bizarre circumstances, before he succumbs to the workings of Fate and takes off for Mexico and a date - or so he hopes - with the divine Taylor Figueroa. This novel's depiction of innocence and simple humanity in an evil world is never less than astonishing. Peopled by a cast of grotesques, freaks, cold-blooded  chattering housewives (who are all, mysteriously, recently widowed), and one very special adolescent with an unfortunate talent for being in the wrong place at the right time, Vernon God Little is a riotous adventure story which cuts a satirical swathe through the heart of contemporary America (blurb).
