Published by Michael Joseph, London; 1951. 255pp. 8vo. First edition, first impression. Condition: Near Fine/Very Good+.

Bound in original black cloth boards with gilt title to the spine, although a little faded. The binding is square and tight and in smart condition There is a touch of bumping to the spine ends and corners, and a few very faint scratch marks to the rear board, but the binding is otherwise very smart. Inside, there is a small hole to the top inside corner of the pastedown and also to the ffep, but otherwise, apart from the expected toning, the pages are clean and bright and in excellent condition.

The book is housed in it’s original dust jacket. There is some fading to the spine, a little wear to the spine ends and corners, and some toning to the flaps. In spite of these small points, however, the jacket complements the book nicely and remains in bright condition.

Written by the author of “Odd Man Out”, this novel is a murder mystery packed full of ‘thievery, murder and the borders of reality’. It is a fast-paced, intense tale, written by one of the few authors who can combine excitement and suspense with a profound feeling for character and situation (blurb). This book is a lovely example of this first edition and would be the perfect addition to any collection.
