Published by Gollancz, London; 1960. 8vo. 224pp. First edition, first impression. Condition: Near Fine/Near Fine.
Bound in original blue cloth boards with title in gilt to the spine. The binding is square and tight and in excellent condition, with no marks of damage save a touch of bumping to the spine ends and corners and a faint stain to the top right of the front board. Inside, the pages are clean and bright and free from blemishes and wear, other than some toning and age spotting to the pages.
The book is housed in its original first issue jacket, which is in lovely condition. There is a touch of shelf wear to the edges and some spotting and rubbing to the spine and rear panel, but it remains bright and smart condition.
In all, this is a smart example of this first edition by Lawrie. It tells a story that is at once profound, deeply moving, and extraordinarily revealing. It is a remarkable book, written with an insight, and rare combination of objectivity and sympathy, which make the reading of it a unique and absorbing experience (blurb).
