In all, this is a lovely example of this first edition by Ian McEwan. It was his third novel, and won the Whitbread Award for best novel in 1987. It tells the haunting story of a children's author and his wife who experienced every parent's worst nightmare with the kidnapping of their 3 year old daughter 2 years before, when she was snatched from him on a Saturday morning trip to the supermarket. It is one of McEwan's most popular novels and was turned into a BBC tv film in 2017, starring Benedict Cumberbatch and Kelly MacDonald. This is a beautiful example of this moving first edition, and would be an excellent addition to any modern firsts collection.
