Published by Faber and Faber, London; 2005. First edition, third impression. Signed by the author. Condition: Fine/Near Fine.

Bound in original navy cloth boards with the title in silver to the spine. The binding is square and tight and in excellent condition, with no marks of damage, just a touch of bumping to the spine ends and corners. Inside, the pages are clean and bright with just a couple of spots to the closed edges. The book is flat signed by the author to the title page.

The book is housed in its original dust jacket, which is also in very smart condition, free from marks or damage, save a touch of bumping, and the 'o' of lighthouse wearing away. Ir is otherwise vibrant and clean.

In all, this is a very nice signed example of this modern first, an Adam Dalgliesh mystery by P. D. James. This novel was the successor to the popular The Murder Room and displays all the qualities that avid readers of James expect: sensitive characterisation, an exciting and superbly structured plot and vivid evocation of place. It is a subtle and powerful work of contemporary fiction.
