All in all, this is a lovely first-edition example of the 13th novel in Ellis Peters' Brother Cadfael Chronicles. Ellis Peters is the pseudonym of British author Edith Pargeter, who is best known for her medieval detective series, the Brother Cadfael Chronicles. This series is a set of murder mystery novels set in 12th-century England during the Anarchy, centred on the protagonist, a Welsh Benedictine monk, Brother Cadfael, who aids the law by investigating and solving murders. In this novel, he investigates a brutal murder that takes place with the intent of preventing the annual presentation of the white rose and the paying of the rose rent. This book would be a beautiful addition to any Peter or detective fiction collection.
